In January 2012 this year we had an unusual cold snap which froze half of this pond just off of Interurban Road. This made for closer viewing of the birds because they liked to hang out at the edge where the ice and water met. The first time I went to visit I saw a lot of swans which I’ll post later. The second time I was watching the swans and this heron flew in and I was lucky enough to have caught him flying. But it was his landing that was spectacular because he slid and almost went into the water, his feathers everywhere. His colouring is beautiful and even more so against the snow and ice.
